What Are the Odds of Needing Emergency Dentistry Service?

The need for emergency dentistry services may be more common than you think.  The American Dental Association published a research brief, “Majority of Dental-Related Emergency Department Visits Lack Urgency and Can Be Diverted to Dental Offices” in August of 2014.  In their brief, they reviewed data on emergency room visits and people that went to the ER with dental related emergencies.  What they found is that a growing percentage of people are heading to the ER with tooth pain, instead of the dentist.  This is something that we do not recommend because ER doctors are not trained in how to treat dental emergencies or tooth pain.  For this, you need a doctor of dentistry.

What was interesting about the data is that it broke down the severity of the injury or health problem that led to the ER visit in the first place.  It turns out that around 23 percent of those visiting the ER with a dental problem, had an issue that could have been dealt with during a regular dental appointment.  In our office, we don’t want you to waste time seeking emergency treatment and allow room in our schedule for these types of appointments.  If you are experiencing severe discomfort or irritation, let our office staff know so that we can get you scheduled right away, rather than your issue turning into an emergency.

The biggest group of those heading to the ER with dental issues needed to have them resolved within one to two hours.  As an emergency dentistry office, this gives you and us plenty of time to connect and treat whatever is bothering your tooth.  When you head to the ER, there is a good chance that you will be waiting longer than this to receive assistance, so there is simply no need to head to the hospital.  Instead, call our office so that we can meet you and provide the assistance that you need.  We guarantee that your experience will be greatly improved since our office is comfortable, calm and inviting, versus an overcrowded, loud and stressful ER waiting room.

According to the report, the majority of people (69.5%) visited the ER for dental issues outside of normal business hours.  Understandably, a lot of people think to visit the ER after five, not knowing that there are solutions locally.  At our emergency dentistry office, even if we don’t answer the phone, you can leave us a message.  We will get back to you right away if it is an emergency so that you can receive care at our office, rather than heading to the hospital.  With this in mind, try us first.

As an emergency dentist, we are committed to the health of our patients and the local community.  We know the important role that your teeth play in your life-long health.  It is critical, therefore, that you receive the best possible healthcare, and we are the one to provide it.  While hospital doctors do an excellent job of caring for your physical health – they are not experts when it comes to dentistry.  As such, call us first for the preservation of your oral health.
